Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Clearhaven (“we,” “us”) uses cookies, localStorage and similar technologies on clearhaven.link (the “Site”), and how you can control them. It is part of our Privacy Policy and supplements our Terms of Service. Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the ePrivacy Directive, Brazil’s LGPD, or similar law requires consent for storing or accessing information on your device, we rely on the controls described here and, where ads are served, on Google’s consent signals.
1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website you visit. They can be first-party (set by us) or third-party (set by another party whose service appears on the page, such as an embedded game or an ad network), and either session (deleted when you close the browser) or persistent (until they expire or you delete them).
Local storage (including your browser’s localStorage API) stores data on your device in a similar way but is not sent with every HTTP request. Pixels, beacons and SDK identifiers are other technologies used for measurement; none are active on the core Clearhaven pages today, but this Policy describes them for completeness in case they are introduced.
2. Summary: Strictly Necessary, Functional, Analytics, Advertising
We classify every technology on the Site into four categories:
- Strictly necessary — required to deliver the Site (page delivery, security, load balancing). These do not require consent under the ePrivacy Directive.
- Functional — remember choices you make (comments, likes, favourites stored on your device). On Clearhaven these are local-storage keys, not cookies, and never leave your device.
- Analytics / statistics — help us understand aggregate traffic. None are active on the Site today; hosting-level logs are used instead (see Privacy Policy §2.3).
- Advertising / personalization — cookies or identifiers used by advertising partners (including Google) to serve and measure ads. These operate only where ads are displayed and, for EEA/UK users, only subject to valid consent.
3. Technologies Set by Clearhaven (First Party)
The core Site itself sets no cookies. The following localStorage keys are created on your device by our pages for functional purposes. They are readable only by clearhaven.link on that device and are deleted when you clear site data:
cm:<game-slug>— comments you typed on a game page (display name, comment text, date). Purpose: keep your comments visible when you return on the same browser. Duration: until you clear site data. Category: functional.like:<game-slug>,fav:<game-slug>— your like / favourite state per game. Purpose: show your likes and favourites on this device. Duration: until you clear site data. Category: functional.clearhaven:contact— a local copy of messages you submitted via the contact form, so you have a record of what you sent. Duration: until you clear site data. Category: functional.
4. Third-Party Technologies
4.1 Embedded games (GamePix). Game pages embed HTML5 games hosted by GamePix (play.gamepix.com). When a game loads, your browser communicates directly with GamePix, which may set its own cookies or storage under GamePix’s terms and privacy policy to run the game, prevent fraud, and remember in-game progress. We do not control these technologies.
4.2 Google advertising cookies and identifiers. If personalized advertising is displayed on the Site (for example via Google AdSense or Google Ad Manager), Google and its partners may store or read cookies and similar identifiers on your device to serve, cap, and measure ads; to prevent fraudulent clicks; and to build interest segments for personalization. For EEA and UK visitors, these technologies operate only where valid consent has been obtained, and ad requests carry Google’s consent signals (TCF where applicable).
5. Google’s EU User Consent Policy — Our Commitments
When Google advertising products are used on a site with EEA/UK traffic, Google requires publishers to clearly disclose the use of cookies and other technologies and to obtain user consent, and to provide users with the ability to opt out of personalized advertising. In line with Google’s official requirements, we:
- clearly and comprehensively disclose in this Policy the use of cookies and identifiers by Google and other third-party vendors on the Site (Section 4);
- describe the purposes of each category — ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention, and personalization (Sections 2 and 4);
- provide the opt-out controls listed in Section 6, and honor consent signals for EEA/UK users;
- link to Google’s official explanation of how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services (Section 6).
6. Your Choices and Opt-Out Links
You can control cookies and personalized advertising at any time:
- Turn off Google ad personalization for your Google Account: https://myadcenter.google.com/personalizationoff
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use Google’s services (official Google policy): https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- Google Ads Settings: https://adssettings.google.com/
- Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) / industry opt-out tools: https://optout.aboutads.info/ and https://www.youronlinechoices.com/
- Withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies and site data for clearhaven.link in your browser settings (Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari all provide this under “Privacy/Security → Clear browsing data” or “Site settings → Cookies and site data”); doing so also removes the localStorage keys listed in Section 3.
- Send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) or Do Not Track (DNT) signal from your browser — we respect these where legally required.
Opting out of personalization does not stop ads from appearing; it stops them from being tailored to your interests.
7. Browser-Specific Controls
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies; or chrome://settings/cookies.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data (on iOS: Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data).
Blocking all cookies will not break Clearhaven browsing pages, but embedded games may fail to load correctly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as the Site, our advertising partners, or applicable law changes. The “Last updated” date reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced on the Site before they take effect where required.
9. Contact
Questions about this Cookie Policy or our use of technologies: [email protected], or via the Contact page.
